Why does an Online Presence Matter?

More Visibility = More Clients = More Business = More Revenue

It’s how people see, hear, and talk about your event manager business. And here’s the kicker… you control the narrative.

A strong online presence helps you stand out from competitors and connect with potential customers. But it’s not just about your website. It’s everywhere.

✔️ Your website? ✅ Obvious.

✔️ Social media? ✅ Huge.

✔️ Online reviews? ✅ Yep, those matter too.

Even conversations you don’t control, like what people say about your brand are part of your digital footprint. And if you’re not actively managing it, you’re leaving your reputation up to chance.

Want to grow your event manager business but don’t know where to start? You’re in the right place.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly how to build a strong online presence, step by step.

No tech headaches. No guesswork. Just simple, actionable steps to get your business in front of the RIGHT AUDIENCE with the RIGHT TOOLS.

Setting Up Your WordPress Website

No website? No problem. Let’s fix that—fast and simple.

Step 1: Grab Your Domain & Hosting

Think of your domain name as your digital street address. It should be short, catchy, and easy to remember.

  • Buy a domain from Namecheap, GoDaddy, or Google Domains.
  • Get fast, reliable hosting from SiteGround, Hostinger, Bluehost, or Kinsta (all WordPress-friendly).
  • Install WordPress (most hosting providers offer a one-click install, easy peasy!).

Step 2: Pick a Stunning Event Management Theme

Your website needs to look clean, professional, and ready to impress.

Go to Appearance > Themes > Add New in WordPress and pick a theme built for event businesses:

  • Astra – Super lightweight, flexible, and easy to customize.
  • Kadence – Modern, fast, and packed with design options.
  • Neve – Great for beginners who want a sleek, no-fuss setup.

🔥 Pro Tip: Customize your theme with your logo, colors, and fonts to match your brand.

Step 3: Set Up Your Must-Have Pages

Before you launch, make sure your site has these essential pages:

Home – A clear intro to your event management services.

About – Show off your experience and past successes.

Events – A portfolio of your past and upcoming events.

Contact – A simple form so potential clients can reach out.

With these three simple steps, your event manager business is officially online.

Up next? Adding the right plugins to make your website even more powerful.

How to Install & Set Up Simple Calendar?

Step 1: Install & Activate the Plugin

To get started, install and activate Simple Calendar on your WordPress site.

  • Go to your WordPress dashboard
  • Navigate to Plugins > Add New
  • Search for Simple Calendar
  • Click Install Now and then Activate

You can download the plugin ZIP file here (named google-calendar-events.#.zip) if you prefer installing it manually. Check Simple Calendar system requirements here.

Step 2: Create New Calendar

Go to Calendars in your WordPress admin dashboard. Click the Add New tab. Then, give your calendar a title, like you would for any WordPress post. Scroll down to find the settings panel at the bottom of the edit page.

Select Event Source from the dropdown:

  • Google Calendar: Pulls events from a public Google Calendar you own or follow.
  • Grouped Calendar: Combines multiple calendars (regardless of their source).

Step 3: Set Up Google Calendar (if chosen as the source)

Make sure you have a Google API Key saved in the Simple Calendar settings. (Click here for instructions on obtaining and keeping the API key.)

After selecting Google Calendar as the event source:

  • Go to the Google Calendar tab in the settings panel.
  • Enter the Google Calendar ID in the provided field. (Click here for instructions on obtaining the Calendar ID.)

(Optional) Use the Search Query field to filter events by specific keywords. Additional event sources may appear if you have add-ons installed.

Check out this blog to explore more about Simple Calendar’s in-built OAuth helper API that reduces lengthy steps of authentication to just steps ultimately.

Step 4: Customize Calendar Appearance

Select a calendar type after setting the event source. The Default Calendar is included, but add-ons may provide more types. (Click here to learn about configuring the Default Calendar.)

You can modify the event details shown in the calendar. By default, events use WordPress post editor content with special tags. A default template is created when you add a calendar. (Refer to this guide to customize the template.)

Step 5: Explore Display Options

Click Save or Update to save your calendar. Your calendar will appear on its page (e.g., www.yoursite.com/calendar/your-calendar/).

Use one of these options to show it elsewhere:
